Mireille Rijavec & Roxanne Classen

Cabaret

Singer Mireille Rijavec and pianist Roxanne Classen have been performing cabaret together since their 2007 Edmonton Fringe debut Brie, Baguette, and a Broad. Other collaborations include Chat Blanc, a concert theatre piece exploring the life of Erik Satie, and Lost in Montmartre, a cabaret inspired wake for Satie. Cabaret is an intimate gathering place where audiences experience the personal performance of popular song. Mireille and Roxanne also present their unique cabarets for private functions.

Mezzo-Soprano

Mireille has appeared as a mezzo soprano soloist with the Alberta Baroque Ensemble, the Richard Eaton Singers, Pro Coro Canada, the Edmonton Metropolitan Orchestra, Concordia University Chorus and Orchestra, Opera Breve Vancouver, Western Concert Opera, Opera Lyra Ottawa, and in productions supported by Edmonton Opera. She has been heard as the inimitable Julia Child in Lee Hoiby’s Bon Appétit!, an operatic version of one of Julia’s cooking shows, which brought her critical acclaim in Vancouver and at the Edmonton Fringe.

Performance Reviews

Roger Levesque, Edmonton Journal review of Lost in Montmartre, Edmonton Fringe Festival 2013
``But in the end, classical singer Mireille Rijavec is the sublime vocal highlight who helps you get lost in Satie's Paris``
John Charles, Edmonton Sun, Pro Coro Canada's Duruflé Requiem
``...and mezzo-soprano Mireille Rijavec sang Pie Jesu with warmth and tenderness.``
Bill Rankin, Edmonton Journal, Pro Coro Canada's Duruflé Requiem
``Mireille Rijavec found the chant deep within her chest in her Pie Jesu solo, producing a strongly devotional feel.``
Lloyd Dykk, Vancouver Sun
The “opera” (Lee Hoiby's Bon Appétit!), if you can call it that, is dotty and endearing, though I’m a sucker for almost any show with onstage food. … Rijavec was charming and in command of her wits – it can’t have been easy to beat egg whites to a proper peak without missing a beat of the music.
